Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips

Volunteering for a non-profit local music publication, I was granted my very first press pass to Wakarusa music festival in my hometown, Lawrence, KS.

I was terrified in such a legit press pit, but being this close to so much jubilant energy even for 3 songs was enough happiness to make my entire weekend.

Here Wayne has just hurled some token of Lip love (i.e. ball, glow stick, teletubbie) into the enthusiastically riotous crowd.

Note: Thank you to everyone for your support and care. It gives me goosebumps to think how kind everyone has been. I cannot convey my appreciation.

I remember watching on of their concerts on DVD one night a few months ago with a bunch of friends. We didn't know what we were going to do that night so someone popped it in and we were instantly all mesmerized. We ended up watching the whole DVD until about 3AM despite many of us had work early next morning.
Seriously everyone needs to go to one of their concerts or watch the DVD, it left me and all of my friends just buzzing with happiness. The pure fun and energy the Flaming Lips brings to their fans at concerts is genuine and absolutely inspiring. The warmth of this photo captures that feeling perfectly.

Really cool shot! I liked their set, much better than when they played in Tulsa. My band played Wakarusa this year, and it was such a great experience.
