Spiders really freak me out, I have to walk through serious phobia when photographing spiders. Especially when these guys start bouncing on their web when you get to close. Poor beetle, what a way to go.

Melissa Hearle gave props (11 Jul 2008):

Nice shot. Spiders are cool, and I used to collect live ones for class a a kid. It all started when we had that lesson on spiders in 4th grade and my teacher was saying how great it would be to have some to look at in class. I jokingly piped up (rare for me) and said, "I can get you some!" She took me seriously, and I liked that teacher, and was a nerdy kid, so I didn't back out with, "I was kidding!". I caught several, and used posterboard, plastic wrap, etc to make viewing chambers for them. One had babies in class which everybody thought was awesome. Anyway, I let them all go (mostly grass spiders) when we were done, but definitely got brownie points for bringing them in live. I am slightly phobic, especially when I find a very poisonous one in my house (often, it's an old house).
