Clouds
I took this photo when I was at Jervis Bay, in the south coast of NSW. Little did I know that it would be so popular with family and friends. It was even used as one of the photos along with my mom's article in the Philippine Daily Inquirer. (Where in the world is Windang?, Published 1 June 2008).
One of my mom's friends, the first Filipina with a doctorate in physical oceanography and associate professor at the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute, Dr. Laura David, was so impressed with my photo that she asked permission to use it in her lectures. Dr. Laura says that these clouds are called Kelvin-Helmholtz Wave Clouds. She further explains that "lighter warmer air passing above denser colder can create shear. If the difference in the speed of the 2 layers is big enough this shear will induce clouds with wave-like appearance to develop between the two layers."
Isn't nature fascinating?
