I had the wasp in a bowl with plastic wrap over the top so I could take pictures easily without risk of finding out why they call this the Cow Killer. When processed I noticed that all of the out of focus areas took on a Plastic Quality that I find really interesting. Just in case anyone was wondering if it was retouched to look like this - it was'nt.

Good shot of a scary insect - I know - I stepped on one recently. My fault. Bare feet. They seem to appear in August and I worry about the little dogs.

I don't think they are that poisonous. I hear the stings are very painful, and they are called Cow Killers because the stings would become infected and fester on cows then they would die from the infection!
