This one's dedicated to Amanda Means who turns her hand at quilting on top of her photography!
Pythagorean Theorem states a diagonal of a square equals 1.414 times its side measurement. Anyone that has ever built a barn, picked up a needle to quilt, or spent their time in the kitchen kneading & baking bread is familiar with this theorem & the formulas leading to the LeMoyne Star. The relationship between the Square, the Diamond & the Triangle must be understood in order to get to a finish taut piece (or have a barn as opposed to a lean-to).
When you total the parts that fit along one side of the LeMoyne Star, your edgings should work out to be 3.414, a measurement easily checked by using wrist-to-elbow, extended-fingertip-to-shoulder, extended pinky-tip to thumb tip, etc. If you continue working along this formula & build, your result will reach the LeMoyne.
Whether wanting a solid barn foundation, a classic & squared heirloom quilts, or in the case of the family farm where this picture was taken, their barn, their quilts & their flower gardens, all are built based on the this formula.
Enjoy, especially Amanda, this captures a thank you for all your inspiring captures you share with the JPG community.

Loved your essay; especially the write-up for this barn. And great color. Will you do a book of barns?
