This is a self portrait in which I intentionally over-exposed by 2 stops. I wanted to emphasize my eyes because I am visually disabled. If you look closely, you can see my cornea transplant in the eye on the right. The transplant was done because I have a disease called keratoconus. The surgery was unsuccessful and I had many complications, unfortunately, resulting in my being visually disabled. I think this breaks stereotypes because I don't "look" disabled, and my being a visually disabled photographer is even more unusual. And yet my impaired vision impacts the way I live and how I function every single day. It has significantly changed my life both positively and negatively.
