George Whitman is the legendary owner of Shakespeare and Company book shop in Paris (37 rue de la Bûcherie - Go if you've never been !). This amazing book shop is one of my favorite places in Paris. Opened in 1951, the book shop is known for its magical unique atmosphere, and its mythical owner. George (whose age is generally undisclosed, but it is believed he was born in 1911!) sometimes comes down to the shop (He is living in an aparment above the store) and if you have the chance to meet him, he will welcome you to his place as if you were his old time friend, asking you where you're from and if you fancy a cup of tea... George allows young travellers and backpackers to stay in the residential premises above the shop, in exchange for couple hours of work in the bookshop each day. George will also encourage you to read a book a day during your stay...This man is as amazing as his shop, full of mystery and stories...old or new books....sad or happy stories...you'll never know what you could find in this shop but for sure you'll find what you were looking for : Bliss...
