Here's David again, same place as before, in the photo before this one. But he is ready to leave now, as he stands solidly still by the ticket gate, as life moves on around him; kids, grand parents, sunlight.

There is a peace to someone who knows he is dying, once that "acceptance" stage has been reached. David wore that peace like a second skin, and it usually covered up his Kaposi's bruising.

But by the time I went home, he did not stay in touch, and stayed to himself as he got sicker. I respected his solitude.

So, sadly, when he died, because I am far away and cannot depend on family to tell such things, I was late in getting the word.

I have been very depressed by this for days.

So, I want to share David with the world, so everyone will know he existed. He did, too, larger than life, as you can see here.

David is with the angels now, and he always looked like one.

(The is a gelatin silver, using Tri-X film, Mamiya C330 medium format camera, then scanned.)

Another wonderful image. Wonderful mood and atmosphere captured here. Great use of contrast again, I like the fact that faces can't be seen, because of that, adds to the air and feeling of mortality that goes with the accompanying stories with both images. Life goes, then so should the identity captured on film..........

For some reason the pic has me thinking of "Casablanca." Stunning capture.

George - Hi, thanks for coming round again! And, yes, it was hard to write, and as writer, too, you know what I mean. Chris- one truly never knows when one's photos will be the last. Took some of my Dad, spontaneously one day - he looked so old. The day I got them back from the lab, he had died. Good idea, in other words....

Darling Laura, I'm so sorry to hear a dear one of yours has taken his final leave... I have a friend who has Kaposi's Sarcoma also, it is a sad way to go. Painful, and yet I know the peace you speak of. This is a photo of power. No not because of your words or your title. It captures the eye. Makes you want to know the story. My thoughts are with you both.

Laura, many American natives believed that you shouldn't have your photo taken because your soul would be captured. I believe your friend allowed you to capture his soul with this image. It haunts by it's very light and grace - it appears as though time and space are frozen around him and he is transcended from us, from the world. This is probably the most moving photograph I have ever seen; it has brought me to tears. That and your loving husband's commentary...........to have known two such wonderful men in your life you are truly blessed.
