The Gay Pride parade was like a day at Cirque du' Soliel--each moment a wonderful treat. Gay Pride came to be in New York City 39 years ago after the Stonewall riot at a bar in the Village. Now with gay rights, queer people are allowed to marry. God we are slow! With slavery in the past, and laws passed in 1968 that prevented discrimination in inter-racial marriage, all that is left is religion, as always, stumbling and forcing laws that prevent the civil rights of many. As a friend and ally of queer men and women, I can jut imagine what it must have been like for a Caucasian somewhere deep in the Bible Belt to be an open friend and invite someone to dinner. Yet soon I'll be watching a CNN news special asking what it is like to be "Black in America". So with all these changes the only thing left to do is go fishing and say, "Which way America?"
On that note, if you are gay go to www.gaycenter.org where they are developing programs to help prevent gay youth from being singled out or beaten and most of all find self respect from within to face the world you will walk in with your stiletto heels.
