a man with a message
Meet Leonard Knight, builder of Salvation Mountain. My husband and I met this kind and generous man one warm December day a few miles out from the Salton Sea.
Since 1984 Knight has lived in the desert with no running water, no electricity, under the stars, and without many comforts many of us take for granted each day. For over 20 years, Leonard has been building a mountain for Jesus made up of adobe, hay, paint, and a variety of other materials to include cars.
Leonard greeted us upon arrival and to our suprise, many others had come for the same reason as us. We watched Leonard greet every visitor individually and never once preached anything other than LOVE. He invited us to climb the yellow brick road to the top of the mountain where the view was spectacular. At the end of our visit he gave us a stack of postcards picturing the mountain as well as a puzzle. He asked that we spread the message of love. I encourage you to google this man and then go visit him for yourself.
"The Folk Art Society of America has declared Salvation Mountain a national folk art shrine."

On 4 September 2008 Ariel Peters gave props:
He's awsome. He was in Into The Wild. I love what he does.
