On the way to Roopkund which was still inaccessible to the ordinary trekker when we arrived. Roopkund at an altitude of 5,029 mts is a lake frozen through most of the year. In 1942 a park ranger discovered 300 to 600 skeletons at the edge of the lake. There are many myths and lores explaining the skeletons. Radiocarbon dating shows that these skeletons belong to the 9th century.

Further investigation has also revealed that a group of pilgrims might have died in a hail storm.

Sounded really encouraging as we were greeted by an hour long hail storm when we reached the Roopkund base camp.
