She was my mother, She taught me to look death and despair in the eye and tell them to abandon all hope. You will never beat me down.

My mother was a tail blazer she was the first to win this Tony on broadway as Best actress in a musical as a Black woman.On that night the American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards made a lead forward into equality. She was the first lack woman that did not have to share the award.

She has demolished the of discrimination in theater. Close your eyes and walk through into the light. The tricksters are only empowered if you belief them.

I have learned that pride can not be erased no mater how dark a time we walk in.. This is why I say "Nothing but you." She was more than a goddess. She was my mother.
