An official American voting machine from Michigan still registering the votes from its final election in 1980.

In 1980 Americans were taken hostage by students in the US Embassy in Tehran, Iran, a serious fuel shortage gripped the nation and the Soviets invaded Afghanistan. In the face of these major crises - which involve the same countries and the same fuel shortage we face once again today - Jimmy Carter lost his bid for reelection to the former California Governor, Ronald Reagan.

Carter is an amazing and honorable man who has in many ways achieved greater status from what he has accomplished in the years following his presidency than he achieved during his years in office.

This voting machine is in the Carter Center and Presidential Museum in Atlanta, Georgia. I think that his inclusion of a machine from the election he lost rather than one from the election he one speaks volumes about this amazing man.
