Bosnian Muslims await trucks bearing the bodies of loved ones killed in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre on July 9, 2005 in Potocari, Bosnia-Herzegovina.

On July 11, 1995, Bosnian Serb and Serb paramilitary forces—allegedly acting on the orders of Republika Srpska president Radovan Karadzic—overran the United Nations forces guarding the "safe haven" of Srebrenica and killed nearly 8,000 men and boys over a period of several days. It was the worst mass killing in Europe since The Holocaust.

The International Commission on Missing Persons, which continues to locate, exhume and identify bodies buried in mass graves throughout the former Yugoslavia, identified 610 individuals for burial on the 2005 anniversary.

Radovan Karadzic was arrested on July 18, 2008 in Belgrade, Serbia. Despite its tragic past, Bosnia is a burgeoning democracy.

Camille Susak gave props (4 Aug 2008):

You can see their story written on the lady's faces-and then knowing what he's awaiting-so young-sad & powerful shot...
