I admit it, sometimes it feels like Jacques Derrida sets out specifically to confuse his readers, so that when they grossly misinterpret his works (and let's face it, lots of people do) he can shoot them down and get angry about it.
I, however, like to think (hope, pretend) that I mostly understand what he's on about. I'd feel pretty sheepish right now if I didn't, given the number of papers I've written on the subject, and how much his theories inform some of my own work.
And I'm quite certain that our dear Jacques D would not have approved of his face staring out from the chest of my tee-shirt, but meh. I think it's terribly important not to be so serious all the time.
