Many are familiar with the scene from the movie M*A*S*H where Fr. Mulcahey blesses a jeep. Of course to devout Catholics at the time this was sacrilege. But in Eastern cultures such as Japan and Okinawa, it’s a common practice.

Here a Buddhist monk at the behest of a family puts his blessings on a newly purchased vehicle. On Okinawa, many people swear by this practice as better than purchasing car insurance however, take my advice, if you’re going to get your new car blessed, better get the insurance. Just like in the U.S. it’s the law!
