I took this photograph of a spectacled caiman in the Brazilian Pantanal with my brother Will. The caiman was in a small stream waiting for unfortunate fish to pass through its open jaws. We exposed the foreground with a remote flash (effectively ‘freezing’ the caiman and the water) and then kept the shutter open to capture the star trails. With the foreground being totally black (i.e. no more light reaching the sensor) it was no longer exposed whilst the star trails were captured.
The Milky Way can be seen as the bright strip running diagonally through the sky.

Freaking awesome picture. I love the dragged shutter which gives the image so much more depth. Great job on that!
