In Praise of Shadows
Submitted to Recurring Theme: Book Report
An essay on aesthetics by the Japanese novelist Junichiro Tanizaki. The text ranges over architecture, food, toilets, and combines an acute sense of the use of space in buildings, as well as descriptions of lacquerware under candlelight and women in the darkness of the house of pleasure.
Though not intended to be a photography book, there's a load of insights within this book a photographer can pick and learn from.
