It is hard to throw a rock and not hit a building with this effect of painted layers in Cuba. While there, and even more now looking back at these photos, I see the metaphor. I was in Cuba 3 summers and found the country to be just as layered, with different realities popping forward depending on where you look. It is all there in front of you, none of it is painted over. And the mix is beautiful rather than old or faded.
