Lord Ganesh is an elephant headed mythological hindu god. Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak (Freedom Fighter and statesman) started to unite people, for freedom against british empire which was ruling india in 1893.

Today it is annually celebrated in Public places, apartments, colonies, schools, train stations !!

This image was taken during the 11th day when the idol is taken for immersion in a waterbody (such as lakes or seas).

This is a picture of a group immersion of the ganesh idols where they are performing the final prayers before the immersion of the idol in a lake.

This picture in literal sense portrays the tradition that comes along for generations.

Lots of excellent color and atmosphere in this shot. Also, I REALLY appreciate the write up. So many people forget that the magazine want something explaing the shot as well as just the shot. The detail you captured is great. Got my vote.
