The last glimmer of light over Wesquage Pond in Narragansett, RI on 8/8/2008 at 8:08 PM.
I will fully admit that I got entirely lucky with this one. I certainly don't consider myself a digital photographer by any stretch. My forte is putting musty film in crappy cameras, cross processing it, and hoping for the best. This photo makes it look like I knew what I was doing.
On top of everything, there was no photoshop done to this at all. I pulled it into photoshop since I shot in RAW, played around with levels and curves, and it only made the photo look worse! I always shoot in "+" saturation with my D40 and -1.0 exposure compensation (thanks, Ken Rockwell). This darkend the foreground and brightened the reflection of the setting sun against the clouds.
I was also lucky that this summer we have had very unsettled weather in New England. It seems that every afternoon we get a band of thunderstorms that produce the most amazing looking clouds. The lucky night of 080808 was no exception to this interesting phenomenon.
This image was captured from Nicole's beach house deck with my D40 on a tripod. I took a few test shots before the fateful time of 8:08 PM and was very happy with the results. My favorite exposure was at 8:08:11 and is the one seen here.

Nikon D40 perched on a tripod with Nikon 70-300mm VRII lens @ 70mm f/5.6 ISO 200 1/640 sec. Honestly, no photoshop manipulation.
