Population density is a prime requirement for a successful mass transit system, and the Tokyo Metropolitan area is by far the most dense in the world.
The mass transit system here moves over 37 million riders... EACH DAY.
This photograph captures the area around Yokohama Station one of the busiest points in the system, with over 2 million riders per day entering and exiting through a single station.
