I had my daughter, who is the granddaughter of a WWII veteran, stand where she was silhouetted by the fountain at the World War II Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, DC. She is facing the Atlantic theater end which is where her grandfather served. If he and millions like him hadn't served, who knows if she would be here today.
