A 19 year old Cambodian boy finally gets his day in court after waiting in prison for over 6 months for a trial and without a lawyer. International Bridges to Justice (ibj.org), an International NGO based out of Geneva, took his case and is making sure he gets a fair trial. Just to get a trial in Cambodia with a lawyer representing you is a great victory. Often the accused are charged with a crime and are sent to prison awaiting trial for months and years. Most of the accused are rural Cambodians who are illiterate and do not know their rights. Even if they knew they had the right to legal council they often cannot afford to hire a lawyer (and often there aren't any lawyers even available, some provinces only have one private lawyer).
