The Frank Slide

In the middle of the night on April 29th, 1903 a massive chunk of Turtle Mountain broke free and covered the town of Frank in the valley below. Since then, the area has been a popular highwayside rest stop for many people driving through the Crowsnest Pass on their way to BC. I can remember so many times as a kid coming around the corner before getting to Frank, looking out for the mountain that had broken in half. We used to stop here every time, I think mainly so my parents could let us kids blow off some energy climbing around on the massive boulders next to the road before getting back in the car for the 12 hour drive to Vancouver. I always looked for some sort of remnants of the old town of Frank whenever I climbed on the rocks...I've never found anything, but I love it nonetheless. You could spend hours here, wandering around on rubble, as far as the eyes can see.
