This snapping turtle (Chelydra s. serpentina) makes an almost ritualistic circular motion around her eggs. She was spotted making the trip from the lake across the walkway to lay eggs at the base of this tree in my backyard. Snapping turtles mate from April through November, with their peak laying season in June and July.
