At the site of The Great Serpent Mound in Adams County Ohio, there is a garden featuring what are considered to be the typical crops of the Fort Ancient Indian culture. One of those crops is the sunflower.
This relatively new bloom caught my eye on a recent visit because it had not yet been scorched by the hot sun. The bloom was small enough that it did not face the ground like the larger plants that surrounded it. This is a good illustration of why my favorite flower is the sunflower.
