The One I Love
By Jamie Grace-Duff

In 2003, I was introduced to a man named Brian. Two days later, I knocked on his door, silently asked for a hug and received one so open, honest and true I sobbed. We are like the ends of lightning whenever we are near each other. At our wedding, a slide show was shown of us; the paths we took to find each other. Photographs of him stopped when high school started and he has hid his face from cameras ever since. Trust is not something to be taken lightly, and he has entrusted me to capture him, the him I see. Brian is strong and beautiful. He does not see these things in himself. He is a writer, I am a maker, but art sings a song for both of us and together our marriage is like a symphony. There is an overture, a theme, there is trouble and chaos, but underneath, the theme is strong and always emerges again. We found a Charles Simic quote "Wanted: a needle swift enough to sew this poem into a blanket." This quote is us.
