What city do you live in? What neighborhood?
I live in Povoa de Varzim, 40km north of Porto.
What are some adjectives that describe your neighborhood?
laid back, chilled out, slow, rural yet urban, snobby yet down to earth, well off, beautiful.
How long have you lived there, and what brought you there?
I've lived here since November 09, why here is a question that people always ask. There are many reasons but mainly because after living for so long in countries and cultures that were really challenging my partner and I just wanted somewhere to take a break, chill out and enjoy the finer things in life for a while, meaning good wine, good food, (which actually food here is not good for a vegetarian) and most importantly the sea. Having a beach a few minutes from my door makes the world of difference.
What is your favorite thing about this place? Your least favorite?
My favourite is the coastline and the cycling that can be done, the ease of life.
My least favourite is the fact that life here is so easy; people are oblivious to the problems of the world. Living here is not challenging.
Do you feel that you belong there?
as i have said before, here as much as anywhere. Nomads don't "belong" anywhere.
What is the most common misconception about where you live?
no idea... i don't really think many people know much about northern Portugal. Maybe they think it is the same as Spain. It's not. Different country, different language, different culture.
What is a special fact about your city that you have to live there to know?
It has the second biggest casino in Portugal.
What aspect of your city do you secretly love?
no secrets. I love the Port (as in the drink) and the Atlantic ocean at my doorstep.
Anything else you'd like to add?
Northern Portugal is a great place to visit. A secret gem.
