I wanted to take new portraits of those that I love: my wife, my two boys. But I wanted to do something different. And so I gathered a framed picture of each one of us and grouped it with something that speaks about each of us.
I wanted simple pictures.
I did 30-second exposures using a single small Mag-Lite flashlight to light the subjects. I was very excited by the results. I could play with light and shadow. And by lighting the subject from different angles, I was able to achieve a lot more than I could get out of setting up a couple of lights.
All of the pictures in this story are done that way.
The experimentation and the process turned out to be just as exciting and rewarding as the results.
