Tattoo

For some, tattoos may be considered distasteful and a defilement of the body; but it is my opinion that tattoos can be exquisite art forms. They are permanent, signifying, in many cases, an important commitment. They are many times expressions of a person's inner thoughts, values, or commemorations of important events and people in their lives. Tattoos are in themselves art, from the hand of the tattooist, but also they represent the art of the body. For me, one of the most striking and beautiful things about tattoos are the ways in which they become one with the skin and body, they move with the person, age with them, and change with them. Although permanent, they are not stagnant.
These tattoo photographs were taken for a final project in a photography class. These images are mementos, captures of my friends and their personal, illustrative, and unique tattoos.

great essay...a fine selection! especially I love the side scroll: it's so subtle and oppositely curved as the body's shape! it rocks!
