"Art to change lives"
Today, 19th June 2009, I went to the Chalk Art Festival 2009. This event is hosted at the Gateway mall since the past 7 years. The festival supports the children in foster care all across Utah through awareness and donations.
Artist from all over the place gather to draw beautiful chalk drawings and murals.
It was unbelievable , how beautiful these were! these artist , young and old, all sitting under the hot afternoon sun, drawing on the ground, all to support children who don't have a family.
It was pretty amazing but also overwhelming. Not the artworks but the purpose for which this event was being held. It made me think, we are so lucky to have families. Parents who have nurtured us, who have always been there for us. We simply at some points of our lives have taken them for granted.
We think they dont understand or that they just pester us. We say they are old and outdated. We send them to old age homes, we end contacts with them just so we can have our own way of life and they no longer hinder.
How about the childrens in foster care and orphanages? They dont have the privileges which we have, not money or materialistic stuff, but a family. Parents! Some of these children may never know the love of a mother and guidance of a father.
Some of these children, even though they have families, are seperated due to various reasons.
All these children need stable families till they can be adopted or united with their original families.
Guess we really should count our blessings and in some way help these children , no matter in which state or country we may be. Awareness needs to be spread to help them. We can't ignore them just because they are not our relative or our own children. Also we should never forget our own families, parents , siblings as well as our kids. Provide them with love and care, count our blessings and be good human beings. Childrens are our future no matter who they are. One day they will have the reins we hold and they need our love, guidance and care to build that future for coming generations.
Concluding , there is one small but very important thing that we all can do, spread the word, spread the awareness and always remember,
"It's easier to become an adult when you've had a childhood first."
