Waitangi Day, New Zealand

Waitangi Day is big in New Zealand and still controversial as the agreement respecting indigenous rights between the Maori and government apparently exists in two separate versions according to what language you speak. Its celebrated in early February and on my very first day in country, I found myself here at a family festival in Manukau City, Auckland. Most of the crowd were of Maori or Pacific Island descent and incredibly welcoming to a wandering Scottish photographer just aff the boat. All ages and stages dig the music through the day with reggae and Bob Marley feeding the good vibrations. Thanks to the people's hospitality and good nature, my confidence in taking these portraits grew with the realisation that you just have to ask and almost everyone I approached was happy, delighted even by the attention of the camera's lens. Cheers folks.
