Gion Night, Kyoto

I was lucky to be travelling in Kyoto last April at the height of Japan's cherry blossom festival and amazed to see how well people appreciate and admire this event. The park at Gion was busy with people out late into the evening enjoying the night air, the brightly lit and colourful stalls selling food and, the outdoor restaurants under the blossom trees, all making for some vibrant street photography.
I decided on a cinematic crop for these shots and ramped up the colour, especially in the reds and orange to heighten their luminosity. I've also boosted the contrast to further increase the grungy fun of iso 1600 shooting hand held without use of a flash.
