Once I made the switch to digital SLR I lived a while with two standard lenses for the camera. I think it was while thumbing through a Shutterbug magazine that I noticed an ad for the Lensbaby. I was curious and checked out the website listed. I saw the user forum where shooters were posting images they took and people could comment. I saw some amazing images and was interested enough to check out the price. I continued to visit the website from time to time over the next few weeks. While doing that I was also thinking of my style of shooting and if I would really use the lens.

I waited long enough and a vacation was just a few weeks away, "OK, I will get it." I bought the Lensbaby 2.0. I did not want to get any accessories yet, just the main lens to make sure I liked it and would use it. I got the Lensbaby shipped to me and was very excited about my new "toy". I had a great time around the house testing the lens and took the standard flower pictures. While on vacation I felt more comfortable with the lens and branched out. My first "good" shot with the lens was the Atlantic City Pier picture. Not only was it great light and wonderful colors but also my practicing gave me a very nice sweet spot. I was hooked.

I hear people all the time saying, "you can get that same effect in Photoshop." I prefer to capture the image with the effect in the camera rather than spend time later at the computer.

If I am going to the same location that I have shot in the past I will sometimes only take my Lensbaby. First off the camera is much lighter and then I feel challenged to be more creative with only one lens.

After shooting with the lens for a year or so I decided to add the wide/telephoto lens attachment. That has been great. I keep the wide-angle attachment on about 90% of the time now.

Since getting my Lensbaby I have had multiple friends of mine buy their own. Now with the new Lensbaby versions out I am very interested in the Composer. Maybe someday I will add that to my collection as well.

I have been eyeing these for awhile. Your story really makes me want one. I'm with you why use photoshop when I can shoot it that way.
