The Bread of Life Mission - Photographers Fourm Finalist

The Mission

This week I received a letter from Serbin Communications, the publisher of Photographer's Forum Magazine. I had entered the 29th Annual Spring Photography Contest. The letter I received notified me that over 3500 photographers participated in the contest from all over the world and I was selected as one of the finalists in this competition. Needless to say I was thrilled to have made the first cut and be in contention for a prize in this contest.

The image that was selected is The Bread of life Mission in downtown Seattle's Pioneer Square. This shot was taken in March of 2008 and is part of a series of shots I did in downtown Seattle.

Mike lives in the Bread of Life Mission in downtown Seattle. He is smoking outside because they don't allow smoking in the mission (it was opened in Jan, 1939). He is just a guy, down on his luck and real happy the Mission would take him in give him clothes, a bed and the first break he has had in a long time.

As taken from the Mission's web site: http://www.breadoflifemission.org

The Mission provides temporary facilities, a bed, food clothing, and a safe environment for those who are in need. Most of all the Bread of Life gives hope to those who are homeless. The Mission goes beyond the physical in offering an opportunity to make a life changing decision for Jesus Christ. A man can voluntarily become part of the program that sets before him goals which are implemented by encouragement, accountability, and education. The Mission is non-denominational and is supported entirely by individuals, churches, businesses, and foundations that believe in giving Seattle's homeless hope. The BOLM is an integral part of the historic Pioneer Square community in downtown Seattle and partners with many community organizations to bring improvements to the whole community.

Taken in Downtown Seattle on 3/3/08 at around 10pm
