Soul Connection

My adolescent sweetheart,
We shared a locker together in High School,
We cut quite a bit of school together to have fun all day,
We took endless funny pictures in cheap photo machines,
I fell for you the moment I first saw you,
I married you at age 21,
My creative muse,
My best friend,
My love,
My soulmate,
My encourager,
My better half,
My world.
And then, there you were,
You cared for me when I had cancer,
You never missed a chemo treatment,
You were always there.
My supporter through thick and thin,
You cared for me when I most needed you.
And I got well.
And then, I was there for you.
Oh my GOD, you had cancer, too,
I was afraid to breathe for fear I'd lose you,
I think it was easier to be a patient,
Then I took a breath and loved and cared for you.
You were the best patient ever.
Today, we are healthy.
We know everything about each other,
We've seen it all.
Today we live and love for the moment.
Today is richer than all our yesterdays.
Joy! We're still here.
We make each other laugh,
We listen better,
We love better,
We have touched fear
and come back with peace.
I love you.
