The Williamsburg Scottish Festival is a curious blend of the traditional and the modern.

Bands like Rathkeltair add in non-traditional instruments such as electric guitar and bass.

Albannach uses traditional instruments in a modernized way.

The drums and pipes awaken my Celtic blood and I feel very alive.

The highland games are predominantly strength-based athletics.

throwing the 56lb. and 28lb. weight for distance and for height.

The sheaf toss for height. The hammer throw. And the caber toss is the event that will always draw a crowd.

traditional dance competitions.

sheep herding competitions (with sheep dogs of course).

Vendors of mince pies, haggis, scotch eggs, and lots of liquid refreshments of course. ;)

Throughout the day there is the parade of the clans, as well as speakers explaining some of the history of everyday life in the highlands.

the festival brought together people of all types.

regardless of your particular origin, you could definitely have a great time.
