Photo Essay

Masks or is it Reality that Speaks

Mask

Of late I have been doing spontaneous photo essays and I am growing to like the concept.

Sometimes too much planning doesn't work for me as emotion often plays a part in my photos.

This started as a simple idea that stemmed from another photographer's use of a t-shirt to frame a woman's face..I loved the idea but also it was the taking off of the t shirt above her head that made me think of a struggle or perhaps it made me question how in self portraiture we often hide our feelings through the masking of our face using props or shadow but often the nuances of a trembling lip or gesture of a hand speak in a language so strong that the roar is deafening.

So I have used strong uncompromising natural light,a hoodie and no makeup to speak a language that maybe we all relate to at times in our lives

Dedicated to all my JPG friends that make me think and challenge myself as an artist.... xoxo

You are so beautiful that I don't think you can mask that no matter how you arrange yourself. But a great idea and essay, gripping images and interesting words. (Vtd.)

oh, this is such a great series. i love your black and white self portraits so much. they're strong and bold and remind me of the tone stieglitz had with o'keeffe; your hands and fingers remind me of o'keeffe as well. the tone is especially is reminescent of his early portraits of her.

please google "alfred stieglitz georgia o'keeffe portraits." you should reinterpret some of those. you have a very similar spirit and artistic dynamic.
