It's all about the light.
If you can make the light correct, flattering, sexy or even eye catching then you are well on your way to a fantastic image.
The images attached to this story were made with a Nikon D3s, 24-70mm F2.8 lens, two Nikon SB-900 strobes, triggered with pocket wizards remotes. Exposures were all done at 1/250 between f2.8 and f5.
The setting is a mini set in a studio near my home where I purchase shooting time. The mini set consists of two partial wall meeting at a right angle like the corner of a room with one wall, the one on the right, having a louvered shutter installed as a window and light modifier.
I placed the two SB-900 strobes behind the louvered shutter so they would shoot through it and project the very cool light pattern on the wall. The first two exposures I tried were at full power on the strobes but this was way way way to bright. I cut the power in half. Better but still to bright. I cut the power in half again. Which was very close to what I wanted. Then I dialed down the power just a bit more and magic began to appear in my viewfinder.
Full power -----Way to bright
Half power-----Better but still to bright
Quarter power--Just about right - dialed down the power just a bit more.
Now all I needed was a gorgeous, sexy model to pose in the cool setting.
Luckily I had contacted a wonderful model named Elizabeth to do just that very thing.
The images attached to this story are the result of the lighting described above and the fantastically beautiful work of Elizabeth whose elegant and graceful posing completes the images.
