Hot Rod Riot

Greenlawn, NY 10.9.10 - Flames, Baby, Flames

I took a downtown train to Canal St., then hopped on the Slowest Elevator Ever up to the 5th Floor Impossible Project Store. I've been itching to play with the new film. Once there, I had to talk myself out of getting a handmade pinhole Polaroid - hm, pay electric bill, buy camera... oh, I should really be an adult and pay the electric bill. The film I got had to be instant gratification enough. After a short lesson on how to shoot my new packs of Silver Shade film with my Polaroid One Step, I took the Slowest Elevator Ever back down to earth and headed home with my prize.

The next day, I took a walk down to Shore Boulevard to test the range of the film. As serendipity goes, a bright red '57 Chevrolet Bel Air drove by and then parked along the promenade. I took a quick shot of the tail fin in anticipation of using a second pack at a classic car meet up I was heading to the next day.

As usual, I juggled a few cameras at the Riff Raff Riot, but the Polaroid was purposefully hung around my neck. Impossible Project film packs come with eight shots instead of the ten that Polaroid packaged, so I chose my subjects carefully; once shot, the photo was quickly stuck in my back pocket as I was advised to do at the store. After much anticipation, I peaked, and was pleased. The seductive, warm, sometimes uneven tones captured the hot rods with a touch of nostalgia - both photographic and automotive.
