Photo Essay

Inception to Execution

Five Fingers of Irish Coffee

My wife asks me sometimes how I came up with the idea for a particular image and I often don't have a clue.

It's one thing when you have your subject matter before you because you've sought out the setting, people, etc. and everything is straightforward. It's a an entirely different matter when an idea for what could be requires a bit more of the creative process.

I'm not sure what my batting average is, but I'd say maybe 1/2 of the time what I set out to create is close enough to my original vision and/or of sufficient quality to want to post. I often have the imagination, but sometimes lack the ability to properly photograph what I try and bring to life. I've got so much to learn and every project gives me more insight into this amazing craft. I would really hesitate to call myself any kind of artist, but it takes great artistry to deliver upon a vision. The satisfaction of even coming close is one of those things that really make me...well...happy.
