Draft Horse Field Day
11 Jan 2011
October 1, 2005 my husband and I attended a Draft Horse Field Day held at a farm in River Falls, Wisconsin.
Horses, oxen and mules were the main means of plowing the fields in America until the 1930's. Although, the Amish are still utilizing this method..
The owners did a magnificent job of demonstrating the good old days, plowing with teams of horses...
We also saw a couple of oxen on display.
This was the first Horse Draft Show I have ever seen and hope to again in the future..It was not widely advertised, but we found out about it through a stranger who we met while eating lunch in a diner a few weeks beforehand..
The plowed ground was rough for walking and the cut corn stalks were like sharp sticks but it was worth every step of the way shooting pictures of the event with other photographers who had better cameras than I had.
