Heygate Estate. One year on.

Heygate Estate - Home Sweet Home

I had wanted to go and photograph the heygate estate for a while so in January 2010, I managed to find time to go down there. There were a few residents still there but the place was closing down with big plans for redevelopment of the estate to be completed by 2014.

Last Month it was announced that all plans were on hold due to funding. I had time to get down to the estate and I did manage to get in although there are big wooden hoarding boards going up around the entrances. What sadden me was that a lot of the messages of love for the estate seemed to have been removed, instead there seems to be more poignant messages.

Graffiti artists are slowly moving in and I saw a couple of drug addicts hanging around. it will be interesting to see what happens to the estate but you can be sure it will go down hill.

Im planning to go back in July 2011 and see how the place is looking.
