What city do you live in? What neighborhood?
I live in a town called Cleveland, in the middle of Delta farmlands. Fields and farms surround the town on all sides.
What are some adjectives that describe your neighborhood?
Even though there is little offered in the way of "fun", the Delta has its own way of providing places in which to create fun. It's scenic towns with histories rich in Blues, Jazz, and share-cropping provide excellent foundations for ghost stories, tour sites, and plain ol' mischief.
How long have you lived there, and what brought you there?
I was born and raised in Cleveland. Both of my parents went to Delta State University, the college located at the center of Cleveland.
What is your favorite thing about this place? Your least favorite?
My favorite thing about this place is the culture. It has a rich history and provides an excellent starting point for many aspiring musicians. The least favorite thing is the way a lot of people get stuck here and end up dying out.
Do you feel that you belong there?
Part of me feels like I belong here, mainly because my family is here. But over the years I've grown restless and have decided to spread my wings a bit.
What is the most common misconception about where you live?
Most people think that Cleveland is home to very ignorant people. And, while that may be true in some cases, there are those in this town who are quite brilliant. The college helps bring in people from all over the country, and all over the world.
What is a special fact about your city that you have to live there to know?
If you've ever heard of Back Yard Burger, it was started in a trailer in Cleveland.
What aspect of your city do you secretly love?
I secretly love the farming community and the way that most of the farms here are still run by families that have passed the farms down throughout the generations.
