Stepping Out

The word PowWow, meaning "spiritual leader".

PowWow's of today is a specific type of event where both Native and non-Native people meet to dance, sing, socialize, and honor native Indian culture. There a dancing competition, often with significant prize money awarded, so we get the best colours and costume to photograph. This PowWow can vary in length from one day session of 5 to 6 hours to week long ones.

If you have not attended a PowWow you should. The drums are loud, the dance is direct, and the people are so proud in what there doing.

So much fun to see and hear, as a photographer the colors are magnificent.

Just to let you know that the Eagles feathers are from bird that were killed by hydro lines and were donated to the native for there costume.

Each bird(eagle spirit) is horoned for there feathers and parts.

Attend one today and expericence the Native culture, you will be amazed.

For all ages, its still a fun day.
