Early Morning Light Series
By Andrea Petersen
17 Sep 2011
I have been a creature of habit for several years in going to bed late and getting up late. (Not realizing that I was missing out on the best time of the day.)
I decided I needed to change my ways to embrace the early morning light personally by following the path of the sun and the clouds that presented itself on overcast days with even a rain shower mixed in.
I left a few spots empty purposely in my photo essay because I am waiting for haze with fog next to work with which I dearly love for atmospheric lighting....In my self portraits, that I am including with this series, I feel more relaxed to be a part of the scene that I am shooting and not the main focus of the scene. I want nature and the lighting to be the main priority.
Since I have started this series I have replaced some of these pictures that I had picked out as my favorites but this is how we learn by evaluating and critiquing our own work. What I have gained from this is I will never stop learning until the day I stop trying.

Truly a beautiful series, Andrea! My favorite photo is the large one here. I love the essay, too. Got my vote!

Thank you for your very kind words and your vote, Susan. My favorite also is the large picture so far. The funny thing about it is that I thought I was through that morning with the photo shoots when I happened to turn my head and saw the rays. I immediately sprung into action and prayed I could capture it as I saw it.

Andrea, this reminds me of paintings I have seen from the early 1800s. You have certainly harnessed the light to work for you in these gorgeous SPs. Superb images, each one. voted.

I so agree with Judy, my friend. If you were in a period costume of that time, I'd swear they were paintings from one of the masters back then. Really love this essay and look forward to more of your beautiful morning shots. Sure gets my vote.

You are so right about the morning haze and fog! I'm like you were, sleeping to late..haha, but perhaps not every weekend now, you've given me some ideas!

This has been such a fabulous series. Photography is light and how can we ever hope to master it if we don't take advantage of the oppotunities to work with different types of light. Awesome job Andrea.
