Sanctuary
By Claire Crocker

Stressed
from looming deadlines
Making frantic last minute efforts
to remember endless obligations
and promises made
and demands identified
for far too long
and for far too many people
Expecting too much
from myself
and allowing others
to expect far too much from me
when I'm already overwhelmed
Anxiety, that tight-fisted,
muscle-aching, agitating
dread feeling of apprehension...
Water
Crashing, tumbling, roaring
obliterating every sound
from the world around it
Rumbling through the chasm
white, frothy, roiling,
hurtling toward
placid pools
reflecting natural hues
of jade, azure, bronze
How is it that something
so electrifying
replaces utter discouragement
with
unadulterated tranquility?

Brilliant poetry, Claire. And the photos are absolutely magnificant!! This is such a good example of Maine, in all its glory, in winter and late autumn. I enjoyed everything you've produced here immensely!!! Voted!
