The Bosnian Bank

I walked past this building every day for three months, always wondering what its life used to be like before the war. A war that ended over fifteen years ago and there are still these massive skeletons of the past everywhere. Not in any closet, not hidden away to be pulled out and remembered, just right there on every street for all to see. Six stories high and gorgeous in its day, the bank was placed right across the street from the park. A central, unavoidable, spot in the city. A once lovely building is now abandoned, crumbling, trashed, and covered in graffiti. Once glorious, now defeated. I would have loved to see Mostar and this bank prior to the war, in all its glory.

I know that this feeling all to well. I deployed to Bosnia on a piece keeping mission in 2001 with the US Military. I experienced lots of stuff like this during my time there.
