Smashing the Pumpkins, What a thrill!!!

a new star emerging...
The Gateway Arch...
celestial on earth...
roses are red, violet are blue..smashing pumpkins is all I want to do!
winter footsteps
round and round and round like a pin wheels...
when the sun kiss the ocean...
the pale horse....
ink does not come only in black...
"and she wont't look at you, won't look at you..."
used to be wild...

THE ALBUM

Oceania is the new album by The Smashing Pumpkins, out June 19.

A new challenge by JPG in collaboration with the band is to interpret the title of the song through photography. What a challenge this is! Since this is a new album and not yet release, the lyrics are not available yet, except for a few. How can we interpret a song title if we don't know what the song writer wanted to convey?

I have to say that this challenge gave a renewed enthusiasm on my part.

I begun reviewing my photographs that had been forgotten trying to come up with the appropriate images.

I hope in any way, I was able to interpret what Smashing Pumpkins wanted to relay to their fans.

A short introduction to the album:

"The album they titled Oceania was recorded at singer/guitarist Billy Corgan's private studio in Chicago with his bandmates: guitarist Jeff Schroeder, drummer Mike Byrne and bassist/vocalist Nicole Fiorentino. The powerful 13-song collection

Oceania was created by the band as a true album experience for listeners to fully immerse themselves in the songs and musical performances. For its release, the band is making the best efforts for all the fans to hear it at the same time as press or radio. In 2012, The Pumpkins will perform Oceania."

You did a wonderful job on this photo essay, Litz...While the challenges are difficult because we don't know all the lyrics it has been really lots of fun and maybe it is because we don't know exactly what they want ... we each bring our own interpretations which is what creativity is all about...You have my vote!

A great story....and you really expressed how I felt about the challenge. I wanted to 'do right' by the lyrics, but didn't know what most of them were. So I guess I'll just try to interpret what I think the title means, although I know I won't do anywhere near as good a job as you!! Nice work, indeed, my S-twin!! Voted!!

Fab photos and great in sum. I know I was floundering trying to settle on images that best convey. I am probably not someone who should submit anything. Until this challenge, I'd never heard of Smashing Pumpkins beyond how we took out mailboxes at night on country roads from the back of a pickup. I did go to YouTube and give it a listen. Not really my cup o' tea but then, I'm an old bugger. Stellar approach to an age old question, "huh"?
